But let’s start with what it is. So what is Karaoke, in terms of the actual word. It odesn’t take a neurosurgeon to figure out that it is a foreign word. Karaoke is a Japanes term that means “”empty orchestra,” where kara means empty, and oke from the Japanese term okesutoro, which means orchestra.
And this is why it is termed Karaoke, where you have the “orchestra” or Music Machine, and the one person, or people, the empty orchestra, becaue it’s not the original person speaking.
Now in terms of the beginnings of Karaoke, it first popped up in Japan (you guessed it, you’re so smart ; )). Then it migrated to Eastern Asia in the 1980’s, and after that found it’s way to the United States in the early 1990’s. And at this point, that is when Karaoke Music went mainstream, for the most part.
Now not to get too technical about this, but the Karaoke machine is based on audio input and output. And through this audio input and output uses subcode, which is a fancy way of saying that this is the thing that makes the Karaoke machine spit out the lyrics that you can see and read. These machines also the capability of alternating the pitch of the music so that the singers sound better with there music of choice.
In the older days, the Karaoke Machines looked more like cassette recorders. Now this type of machine had the capability of graphics that went along with the music. But as time went on and the more famous it became, the technology became better.
Take for instance the Karaoke machines that we have today. You no longer have to go to smoky clubs or have to deal with drunks at a bar in order to partake in this wonderful entertainment. Now you can get Karaoke over the phone, on the internet, and even on TV. They use special technology to attach to the machines so it can make the best quality of sound.
